Celestial Hybrids
A solo presentation by Ray A. Tenorio, curated by Lesley Goldwasser, presented during Art Basel Miami 2025.
December 4, 2025 · 1433 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, Florida
Where mythologies meet, new beings emerge.
In Celestial Hybrids, Ray A. Tenorio brings Yoruba and Norse cosmologies into a shared visual world. Deities, guardians, hunters, tricksters, queens, and creation figures are reimagined as hybrid beings whose bodies carry symbols from different cultures.
The exhibition does not collapse these traditions into one. Instead, it creates a space where their parallels can be seen: creation and sacrifice, war and renewal, beauty and protection, nature and secret knowledge, death and transformation.
Rendered in polychromatic oil-based colored pencil on wood and finished with resin, the works combine intricate drawing, saturated color, layered anatomy, and hand-built frames. Together, they propose mythology as a living language—one that migrates, transforms, and continues to reveal what human beings share across time and place.
